1 Chicago police officer killed, another injured in hospital shooting

A Chicago police officer was killed and another critically injured after being shot at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital while guarding a suspect in custody.

Authorities say the suspect, who was being treated for an unrelated issue, somehow obtained a weapon and opened fire before fleeing the hospital.

The suspect was later located at a nearby home and taken into custody by SWAT teams.

The officer who died was a 38-year-old 10-year veteran, while the injured officer is a 57-year-old with 21 years of service, the USA Today has reported.

Officials and hospital staff said the incident is under investigation and expressed condolences while praising first responders and cooperation between agencies.
