5 injured in shooting near Indiana University following Little 500 races

Five women were injured in a shooting near Indiana University in Bloomington following the crowded Little 500 weekend events.

Police said officers heard gunfire around 12:25 a.m. and found victims aged 17 to 22, along with others hurt while fleeing.

Officials believe the shooting began after a fight between two women outside a restaurant and escalated when multiple people drew guns, though only two are thought to have fired.

All victims were treated and released except one who remains hospitalized in stable condition, and the incident is not believed to be random or involve university students, CBS News has reported.

Local leaders condemned the violence and raised concerns about Indiana’s gun laws, which allow open carry and do not require permits for handgun purchases.
