France moves aircraft carrier to Red Sea for Strait of Hormuz mission

France has deployed its carrier strike group, led by the Charles de Gaulle, to the Red Sea as tensions rise over control of the Strait of Hormuz.

French officials said the mission is part of preparations for a possible international operation to secure safe maritime transit and reduce the economic impact of ongoing blockades by the U.S. and Iran.

The deployment follows renewed exchanges of fire that have threatened a fragile four-week truce and disrupted global energy and trade routes.

France and Britain have been developing a multinational security proposal, with about a dozen countries expressing interest in participating, Reuters has reported.

The French military said the mission will help assess regional security conditions, support defensive cooperation with allies, and reassure global shipping and trade stakeholders.
