Israeli airstrikes hit Beirut’s southern suburbs, targeting the Ghobeiri area in what Israel said was an operation against Hezbollah commander Malek Balou of the Radwan Force.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the attack, saying Israel would continue targeting those responsible for attacks on Israeli communities and soldiers.

Lebanese state media reported a loud explosion and significant damage in the predominantly Shia neighborhood.

Hezbollah has not yet commented on Israel’s claim that Balou was killed, Al-Jazeera has reported.

The strike marked the first attack on Beirut’s southern suburbs since a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect on April 17, with both sides accusing each other of violating the truce.
