Star Catcher raises $65 million for space power grid

Star Catcher Industries, a Florida-based space company, has raised $65 million in new funding to develop what it calls the world’s first in-space power grid.

The system would use orbital “power nodes” that collect solar energy and beam it via lasers to other satellites, reducing their reliance on limited onboard power.

The company says this could significantly boost satellite performance by extending operating time, improving maneuverability, and even recharging aging spacecraft.

Investors and defense experts see potential applications in national security, communications, and future technologies like orbital data centers and direct-to-cell networks, Space.com has reported.

In the long term, Star Catcher also envisions extending its power-beaming system to support lunar missions and infrastructure on the Moon.
