Iranian president orders internet access to be restored

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has ordered the restoration of international internet access after months of restrictions, according to state media.

The move follows a task force decision supporting the reauthorization of global connectivity, though no exact date for reopening has been set.

Iran has largely blocked access to the global internet since late February, limiting citizens to a state-controlled “national internet.”

The shutdown, imposed during conflict with the U.S. and Israel, has caused significant economic harm, particularly for online traders and businesses, DPA International has reported.

Officials cite security concerns, but critics say the restrictions also limited the spread of information about the war’s impact.
