A powerful explosion at a building storing mining explosives in northeastern Myanmar killed more than 45 people and injured around 70 others on Sunday.
The blast occurred in Kaungtup village near the Chinese border, an area controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).
Rescue workers reported dozens of deaths, including children, while more than 100 nearby homes were damaged.
The TNLA said gelignite explosives used for mining and quarrying were stored at the site and confirmed an investigation into the cause is underway, the AP has reported.
The incident comes amid ongoing tensions and conflict in Myanmar following the 2021 military takeover and fighting involving ethnic armed groups.
