Pope Leo tells 1.2 million crowd in Madrid that God stands with the poor

More than 1.2 million people gathered in Madrid on Sunday for an outdoor Mass led by Pope Leo, making it one of the largest events of his week-long visit to Spain.

Crowds filled the streets near Cibeles Square, cheering and waving flags as the pope arrived.

In his sermon, Leo urged Catholics to support the poor, lonely, and marginalized, saying God stands with those who are most vulnerable.

He also called for Madrid to remain an inclusive and welcoming city and encouraged leaders to respect every human being rather than divide societies, CNBC has reported.

The visit includes meetings with migrants, young people, and cultural figures, as well as stops in Barcelona and the Canary Islands.
