US-Iran ‘peace deal’ announced; Trump says Strait of Hormuz reopening

President Donald Trump announced that the United States and Iran have reached a ceasefire agreement, a claim later confirmed by Iran’s deputy foreign minister.

The deal is intended to immediately end hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, allowing toll-free shipping and the restoration of oil flows through the region.

Trump described the agreement as a major step toward regional peace and suggested that a broader peace accord with Iran could follow.

The agreement is expected to be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19 after a series of technical and diplomatic meetings, Al-Jazeera has reported.

Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and the United Kingdom welcomed the deal, expressing hope that it will improve regional stability and global energy security.
