For the first time since Dutch law changed, a child under 12 has died through euthanasia in the Netherlands.
The child was reportedly suffering from a serious illness, and the case occurred under a law introduced two years ago allowing assisted dying for terminally ill children aged 1–12 under strict conditions.
The case has been referred to prosecutors to determine whether doctors followed all legal requirements.
Euthanasia is widely supported in the Netherlands and has been legal for adults with incurable illnesses since 2002, the Daily Mail has reported.
Meanwhile, debate over assisted dying continues in the UK, where a proposed bill to legalise it for terminally ill adults is being reintroduced despite strong opposition from some Labour MPs.
