Russia lands heavy strikes on Ukraine’s capital, killing at least 21

Russia launched an 11-hour drone and missile attack on Kyiv overnight, killing at least 21 civilians and injuring more than 90.

The bombardment caused widespread destruction, forced over 50,000 residents to shelter in subway stations, and left emergency crews searching through collapsed buildings for victims.

Moscow said the strike was retaliation for Ukraine’s recent long-range attacks on Russian oil facilities, which have contributed to fuel shortages and increased pressure on the Kremlin.

Ukrainian officials say their strikes are aimed at forcing President Vladimir Putin into negotiations, but Russia has responded with intensified attacks on Ukrainian cities, the AP has reported.

Analysts say the conflict remains deadlocked, with diplomatic efforts failing to produce results while both sides continue escalating military pressure.
