Five people shot, one in critical condition, at Virginia college

Five people were shot outside residence halls at Virginia State University early Saturday morning, with one victim in critical condition.

Police responded around 1:29 a.m. to reports of gunfire and found five people suffering from gunshot wounds near the campus dorms.

Four victims had non-life-threatening injuries, including a VSU student who was later released from the hospital.

The campus lockdown was lifted around 8:22 a.m., but officials urged students and staff to avoid the area while the investigation continued, USA Today has reported.

Chesterfield County police were leading the investigation with assistance from campus police and other law enforcement agencies, and no suspects had been taken into custody as of Saturday afternoon.
