Corie Walsh, a 40-year-old Illinois mother, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old son, Barrett, in Frankfort, Illinois.
According to court documents, a neighbor found the child unresponsive in the family’s basement and began CPR before he was taken to a hospital, where he died from asphyxia.
The neighbor also found Walsh in a bathtub with self-inflicted knife wounds, and she was hospitalized for treatment.
Investigators say Walsh told them she killed her son because she believed he was “the devil” and the “anti-Christ,” while her attorney has said she was experiencing a psychotic episode, CNN has reported.
Prosecutors also said Walsh had been closely following the trial of Massachusetts mother Lindsay Clancy and had discussed that case with friends just hours before her son’s death.
