Bulgaria’s former President Radev wins election

Bulgaria has held its eighth parliamentary election in five years, resulting in a decisive victory for former president Rumen Radev’s Progressive Bulgaria party.

With nearly all votes counted, the party secured about 44.7% of the vote and is expected to hold roughly 130 of 240 parliamentary seats.

The result exceeded expectations and reflects voter frustration with years of unstable coalition governments.

Radev is set to become the next prime minister, raising hopes for greater political stability, Al-Jazeera has reported.

However, concerns remain about how his leadership may affect Bulgaria’s stance within the European Union and NATO.
