The Los Angeles Police Department carried out a large-scale operation against an illegal street takeover in Harbor Gateway, arresting nearly 70 people and issuing 570 citations. 

More than 150 officers surrounded a crowd of over 700 people at the intersection of South Figueroa Street and West Alondra Boulevard, using buses to transport those arrested and a fleet of tow trucks to remove vehicles.

Police said 66 people were arrested for participating in or assisting a street race or takeover, while three others were arrested on charges including assaulting an officer, battery and interfering with police.

Authorities also impounded 200 vehicles and recovered seven firearms and canisters of nitrous oxide during the operation, ABC 7 has reported.

LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said the operation was planned using intelligence and drone technology and warned that police will continue targeting illegal street takeovers across Los Angeles.
