Mexico’s president blocks plan to send US troops across border

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she rejected a proposal from former U.S. President Donald Trump to send American troops into Mexico to combat drug trafficking, calling it a threat to national sovereignty.

Her remarks came after a Wall Street Journal report detailed a tense phone call in which Trump pushed for greater U.S. military involvement.

Sheinbaum emphasized, “Sovereignty is not for sale,” NPR has reported.

Despite recent cooperation on immigration and trade, her firm stance signals resistance to any U.S. military intervention on Mexican soil.
