Minnesota launches investigation that could bring charges against US immigration officers

Minnesota prosecutors have launched an investigation into potential misconduct by federal officers, including Greg Bovino, during the January “Metro Surge” immigration enforcement operation.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said her office is reviewing 17 cases, including fatal shootings of U.S. citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti, and incidents involving chemical irritants near a high school.

Moriarty expressed confidence her office could pursue charges despite federal claims that officers are immune from state prosecution.

An online portal has been created to collect eyewitness accounts, photos, and videos from the operation, focusing on incidents in Hennepin County, The Guardian has reported.

Legal experts say the investigation could clarify whether officers acted unlawfully, and Moriarty is prepared to sue the federal government if evidence is withheld.
