1 dead, 5 injured and several in custody in Mall of Louisiana shooting

A shooting at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge left one person dead and five others injured after two groups exchanged gunfire near the food court.

Police said the violence stemmed from a dispute between the groups and was not a random attack, though bystanders were caught in the crossfire.

Five suspects were detained for questioning as investigators continue to search for others involved.

Authorities believe handguns were used, and surveillance footage helped quickly identify those connected to the incident, NBC News has reported.

Officials said the mall was closed after the shooting and credited the rapid police response with preventing further casualties.
