Man charged with attempted assassination of Trump in White House correspondents’ dinner shooting

A man identified as Cole Tomas Allen was charged with attempted assassination of President Donald Trump after a violent incident at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C.

Authorities say the attack was planned for weeks and involved Allen traveling cross-country and booking a hotel room near the event ahead of time.

During the dinner, he allegedly tried to breach security with guns and knives, leading to an exchange of gunfire with Secret Service agents and sending guests into panic.

Allen and a Secret Service officer were injured, though the officer survived due to a bullet-resistant vest, the AP has reported.

He remains in jail facing multiple federal charges, including attempted assassination and firearms offenses, while investigators continue to examine the shooting details.
