Former President Joe Biden has sued the Justice Department to block the release of audio recordings and transcripts of private conversations with his memoir ghostwriter, arguing they contain personal and protected information.
The dispute stems from a Freedom of Information Act request by the Heritage Foundation seeking materials related to Biden’s memoir and a classified documents investigation.
Biden’s legal team says the Justice Department reversed its earlier decision to withhold the records and now plans to release them with limited redactions.
The recordings are connected to former Special Counsel Robert Hur’s investigation, which highlighted concerns about Biden’s memory but did not result in criminal charges, NBC News has reported.
Unless a court intervenes, the materials are scheduled for release on June 15.
