Ohio State University reaches $100 million settlement in sex abuse lawsuits

Ohio State University has agreed to pay $100 million to 279 former students who allege they were sexually abused decades ago by campus doctor Richard Strauss.

The settlement is part of an eight-year legal battle over claims that the university knew about Strauss’s misconduct but failed to stop it.

One plaintiff did not sign the agreement, and final details are still being worked out.

A court-appointed special master will determine individual compensation for the survivors in the coming weeks, NBC News has reported.

The case follows earlier settlements and investigations that found Strauss abused at least 177 students from the 1970s to 1990s while working at the university.
