Former Trump national security adviser John Bolton has agreed to plead guilty to one count of retaining national security information as part of a deal with federal prosecutors.
He is expected to be arraigned again on June 26 and could face a sentence ranging from probation to up to 60 months in prison, along with $2.25 million in restitution.
Prosecutors say the case involves classified material described in an electronic diary entry Bolton shared with family members.
Bolton had originally pleaded not guilty after being indicted on multiple counts of mishandling and retaining national defense information, NBC News has reported.
The plea deal comes after years of political conflict with former President Donald Trump, who had previously criticized and called for his prosecution.
