The International Maritime Organization has begun evacuating more than 11,000 sailors stranded in the Strait of Hormuz after a U.S.-Iran agreement helped ease tensions following the conflict involving Iran and Israel.
The operation is being coordinated with Iran, Oman, the United States, and regional partners to ensure safe navigation.
Shipping traffic through the strait has increased significantly since the agreement, with commercial vessel movements reaching their highest level since the conflict began.
Denmark has joined a maritime mission led by France and Britain to help restore normal operations in the waterway, Al-Jazeera has reported.
Despite progress in reopening trade routes, disagreements remain over the future management of the strait, including Iran’s role and whether any fees could be imposed on passing ships.
