3rd Californian dies from snake bite this year

A 78-year-old woman in Northern California died after being bitten multiple times by a venomous snake on a rural property in Mendocino County, marking the state’s third snake-bite death this year.

She was hospitalized after the April 8 incident but died two days later, and the snake species has not yet been identified.

Earlier this year, two other Californians—a 25-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman—also died after rattlesnake bites during outdoor activities.

California typically averages about one fatal snake bite per year, making this year’s total unusually high, KTLA has reported.

Experts say warmer weather may be contributing to more frequent snake encounters, though fatal bites remain rare nationwide.
