Japanese officials and farmers are turning to a high-tech scarecrow called “Monster Wolf” to deter an increasingly aggressive bear population.
The solar-powered animatronic, which features glowing eyes, loud noises, and motion sensors, is designed to frighten wildlife away from farmland.
Made by Hokkaido-based Ohta Seiki, the device has become popular due to rising bear encounters and its effectiveness in reducing crop damage.
Demand has surged so much that the company is struggling to keep up with orders, despite each unit costing around $4,000–$4,800, the USA Today has reported.
The trend comes after a sharp rise in bear attacks and sightings in Japan, making wildlife control a growing national concern.
