Camp Mystic, following deadly flooding incident, files for bankruptcy

Camp Mystic, a Christian all-girls sleepaway camp in Texas, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy nearly a year after a deadly flood killed 25 girls and two teen counselors at its Guadalupe River site.

The camp reported more than $10 million in debt, while attorneys for victims’ families said bankruptcy would not prevent accountability.

The tragedy sparked multiple investigations, lawsuits, and criticism over alleged inadequate flood preparedness and safety training.

Texas officials and some families have also pushed to block the camp from reopening until investigations are complete, with a broader review still ongoing, ABC News has reported.

The camp has disputed some claims, arguing the flooding was extreme and not foreseeable, and says it will respond to the allegations in court.
