Denmark’s immigration minister, Morten Bødskov, has announced plans to pursue a nationwide ban on the Islamic call to prayer, arguing it does not belong in Danish public spaces.
The government will investigate whether such a ban is legally possible, despite constitutional protections for religious worship.
The proposal follows earlier unsuccessful attempts in 2020 and 2025 and comes amid broader concerns from officials about what they describe as increasing Islamisation.
Denmark already enforces some of Europe’s strictest immigration policies under Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, including controversial measures affecting migrants and asylum seekers, The Telegraph has reported.
Any ban is likely to face legal challenges as authorities balance religious freedom with local noise and public-space regulations.
