Trump asks Congress for $87bn, mostly for ‘urgent’ Iran war costs

The White House has requested $87.6 billion from Congress to fund military and related needs tied largely to the ongoing war in Iran, even as lawmakers recently passed a resolution rebuking the conflict and calling for limits on presidential war powers.

Most of the funding would go to the Pentagon for munitions, operations, classified programs, and rebuilding military stockpiles, along with smaller amounts for embassy security, farmers, and disease response.

The request faces resistance in Congress due to the war’s unpopularity and the approaching midterm elections.

President Donald Trump criticized senators who supported the war powers resolution and clashed with Republicans during tense meetings on Capitol Hill, the BBC has reported.

The dispute highlights growing political friction over the war’s direction, costs, and congressional authority over military action.
