Israeli forces seized the 12th-century Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon during their deepest incursion into the country in 26 years, despite an existing ceasefire.
The castle, previously occupied by Israel from 1982 to 2000, is seen as a symbol of Israel’s long and costly involvement in Lebanon.
Analysts say the site offers limited military value because Hezbollah mainly relies on drones rather than ground forces.
However, experts suggest the seizure may serve as a symbolic or political victory for Israel, Semafor has reported.
Meanwhile, upcoming talks between Israel and Lebanon in Washington have raised hopes for a new ceasefire, which Iran views as necessary for wider diplomatic progress with the United States.
