President Donald Trump said he did not campaign on avoiding “endless wars,” as he addressed the ongoing conflict with Iran in a recent interview.
He argued that the current fighting is not an “endless war,” noting it has lasted about three months and is partially under a ceasefire arrangement.
Trump also said that supporting a strong military is not consistent with being entirely opposed to war.
His remarks come amid continued U.S. military funding increases and ongoing debate over America’s role in Middle East conflicts, The Hill has reported.
While he has often criticized long wars like Iraq and pledged to end overseas conflicts, he has also maintained that Iran must not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.
